Skin and hair care tips that you need for Holi festival

So there’s the damage, but does that mean you should not play Holi?
No, of course not! You should do it, if you get a chance. Just make sure you keep your skin and hair prepped and ready.
So be sure to use mild colours, preferably herbal ones. Here are some tips to prepare your skin for Holi…
Pre-Holi Tips:
1. Oil your skin and hair

Before you step out to play holi, make sure that you slather on oil on all parts of your body, and not just the visible areas of your body. This will make sure that the oil makes the skin greasy and that none of the colours seep into your skin. The oil acts like a barrier between your skin and the harsh colours. Try this tip, and you will see that the colours on your face and body get removed in no time at all. We suggest you use a thick oil like coconut or olive oil for this, as these oils will not dissolve into your skin.
2.  Tie your hair

This will help to minimise the damage. You have to remember that it is not just colours that the hair is exposed to, but also the harsh sun.Tie your hair in a pony, if you have short hair. If it is long, then you can braid it. If you have really short hair, then use a hat/cap/ scarf to cover your hair.
3. Wear Full Length Clothes

Leave gorgeous clothes and cute shorts where they belong, in Holi celebrations shown in movies. If you are worried about your skin, then wear clothes that cover you up. It will help in minimizing the  exposure to colours and the sun. And yes, make sure they are old. Or they will look like a tie and die experiment that went horribly wrong…
4Hydrate yourself

It is very important to keep your body hydrated as well, when you are playing Holi. This tip is often neglected by people as they do not want to stop playing just to go back to drink water. People tend to forget to do this. But, remember to hydrate yourself as the colours tend to dry out your skin anyway, and if you don’t remember to hydrate yourself, your skin will get even drier, making it easier for the colours to stick to the skin.
5. Apply Petroleum Jelly

Apply  Petroleum Jelly inside nails, feet, elbows, at the back of the ear. People with sensitive skin should avoid colours in sensitive areas of skin. Also remember to apply petroleum jelly on all the hard to reach places, that the oil must have missed, like the back of your neck, the back of your ears and between your fingers. Petroleum jelly has a very thick texture.
6. Protect your lips with lip balm

The skin, hair and nails are taken care of, but the lips are often forgotten. Apply a good lip balm (try one with sunscreen) and then enjoy!

7. Nail Care

When it comes to your nails, it’s almost inevitable to find colour stuck between your skin and nail by the end of your Holi session. Make sure you coat your hands and feet with coconut oil as well and apply a transparent nail polish on your nail beds to avoid staining. If you’ve got long nails, it’s best to cut them.

Post Holi Tips
1. Once you’re done playing, stand under running water for 5-10 minutes. Simply stand, you don’t need to aggressively scrub or scratch.
2. If the colours aren’t coming off, don’t worry. It will, eventually. Avoid scrubbing too hard or using harsh soaps and cleaners. It will just make matters worse.
3. Beauty Treatments after Holi (DIY)
  1. 1.Add two tablespoons of lemon juice to a bowl of curd, and apply on the areas with colour. Then, take a bath with normal water to get rid of the colour.
  2. Mix gram flour, almond oil, and milk cream in rose water. Make it into a thick paste and apply on the areas with colour. Keep it on till the paste dries. Remove it by rubbing with your hands.
  3. If you have dry skin then mix one tablespoon almond powder, one tablespoon honey, two drops of lemon juice and a bit of milk to make smooth paste. Apply it on your face, let it dry. Remove the pack with wet hands to get clean and soft skin.
  4. We are sure that a bit of colour would have surely entered  your eyes, which is constantly irritating your eyes. To soothe your eyes, after washing off the colour with water,  put some rose water in your eyes and rest. Your eyes will feel relaxed.
  5. Mix two tablespoons of olive oil with four tablespoons of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. Mix well and apply this nourishing pack to your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse off with a mild shampoo and warm water.
  6. Massage the yellow portion of the egg on your scalp or a mixture of three egg yolks, 1 tbsp olive oil and three drops of Vitamin E can be a wonderful hair remedy for your hair after holi.
  7. Apply a paste of rose petals, some malai and honey on your lips for 15 minutes. This treatment will remove colour from your lips and make your lips fuller and red.
**Apply some moisturizer after you take your bath. If you don’t have a habit of doing this, make sure you do it at least today. And continue doing it without fail**
**Don’t get any skin treatments done just before Holi. This will make it susceptible to damage and staining. Similarly, if have colours on your skin despite taking a bath, don’t run for getting a bleach or peel done. It will go off. Wait for 4-7 days after Holi for getting any treatments done**
**If you do find spots of colour, then use the natural ingredients we’ve mentioned before to get them out. It might take a couple of days, but the colour will eventually fade out without harming your skin**
